1 dead following accident, New Hampshire changes laws in response

In the story of a tragic accident that left a woman dead on Christmas Eve, one driver was accused of using a cellphone prior to the crash. Now, a June 2 report has stated that the man allegedly responsible for this woman and mother's death has been indicted for his role in the accident. He has been charged with negligent homicide.

If you've been hurt in a crash in New Hampshire or lost a loved one in a severe accident, then the story of how this case is forcing the driver to be accountable may interest you. There may be times when it's hard to place the blame, but when it comes to outright neglect, something does need to be done. In this case, that meant filing an indictment against the 31-year-old man.

The man had allegedly been distracted by his cellphone at the time of the accident, resulting in the crash that killed a 30-year-old woman and mother of three. The woman had allegedly been traveling south on Route 13 at the intersection of Route 130 when she was hit from behind by the 31-year-old man's Toyota Tundra.

Police reported that the impact sent the woman's Ford Explorer into the northbound lane, and that caused her to be struck by oncoming traffic. She was then broadsided by a 37-year-old man driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She left behind her three daughters, aged 2, 4 and 9.

Her accident, along with others that have taken place, have prompted the New Hampshire lawmakers to pass new legislation related to the banning of cellphone usage while driving. The bans also extend to other handheld items such as a GPS, pager or other accessories.
