Man leads police on chase while transporting 4-year-old child

Two New Hampshire state troopers, their K-9 companion and a suspect fell into ice on Milton Three Ponds following an extended chase through the states of Maine and New Hampshire. According to the story from Jan. 27, the suspect had been fleeing from Maine with a child in the back seat of his Chevy 2500 pick-up truck.

The officers reported to Kittery, Maine, where the driver attempted to push their cruiser off the road. The Chevy slowed and stopped briefly before speeding away. The officer did not follow, but shortly therafter, it was seen against in Eliot, Maine. The driver was still behaving erratically, and the police again attempted to stop the vehicle. The truck got away a second time.

It wasn't until police found the vehicle acting recklessly again in Dover, New Hampshire, that a chase was initiated. At that point, police believed the driver wanted to be pursued. They identified him as a 39-year-old male from Kittery. His 4-year-old child was in the rear seat of the vehicle.

The man continued to drive dangerously and was stopped in Somersworth, where he sped away again. The police tried to use tire deflation techniques to stop his vehicle, but he continued to speed away down Townhouse Road. At the dead end, he exited his vehicle, leaving his son in the vehicle. The man led police onto the frozen pond, where they all fell through the ice. Officers were treated at the hospital, while the man was transported to Frisbee Memorial Hospital. The little boy was returned to his mother, who is not married to the boy's father, after the incident.

Cases like this one show how serious a dangerous driver can be. It's fortunate that no one was seriously hurt, but the officers did still have some injuries to attend and had their lives put at risk. If you're injured by someone who is reckless in this manner, it's important to exercise your right to speak with an attorney.
