How can you best avoid a motorcycle accident?

| Aug 25, 2015 | Motorcycle Accidents |

There are many reasons for motorcycle accidents, but what can you do to help prevent them? You want to stay safe on the road, so you don’t have to worry about getting in a crash. While some accidents are unavoidable, like those with dangerous drivers, if you’re careful, you may just be able to avoid some close-calls. Your motorcycle provides you with powerful brakes, good handling and vision that isn’t obstructed, so you may see the potential for an accident before it takes place and stop quickly before you get hurt.

Safety gear is an important way to keep yourself safe if you are hit by another driver. It prevents injuries by padding your fall and protecting important body parts, like your skull, for example. Wearing a brightly colored jumpsuit can also make it easier for other drivers to see you, which will help prevent accidents from taking place.

If a car turns left in front of you, you’re at risk of a head-on collision that forces you to be thrown from your bike. How can you prevent this? Try to see it coming. If you notice a car to your right and you don’t think the driver has seen you, slow down. If that driver pulls out, you’ll have more time to slow down and to get out of the way or brake. Evasive action could save you a lot of pain and suffering in that situation.

If a car changes lanes and is pressing into the spot you’re occupying, this is another time for evasion. Try to avoid riding in a driver’s blind spot to prevent sudden accidents.

If you are injured in a motorcycle accident, remember you have the right to pursue compensation from the driver who was at fault.
