When you get hurt on the job, you may have some questions. Here are a few quick answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about workers’ compensation.
Can you be fired for getting hurt on the job?
To be truthful, there can be some cases where you could be, like if you were the cause of injuries to yourself or others; New Hampshire does not have any job security laws. That doesn’t mean that your injuries won’t be compensable. If your treating physician releases you back to work within 18 months, your employer may need to reinstate you by law.
How long will my claim remain active?
Your claim remains active for as long as you need treatment. That means if you need treatment for the rest of your life, you can obtain compensation through workers’ compensation to get the medical care you need in most cases. After some time, you may be entitled to long-term benefits, like disability benefits.
What if I want to see my own doctor?
Depending on the program your employer is part of, you may be able, or may not be able, to see your own doctor. If your employer is part of a managed care program, you’ll need to go to a doctor in the network. If your doctor is part of the workers’ compensation network, then you should be able to choose that doctor for your care. If your employer doesn’t participate in a managed care program, then you should be able to choose any doctor you want for your care.
