A teen is killed in Windham after being struck by a truck on I-93

Just before 6:45 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 23, a 19-year-old Methuen, Massachusetts, woman lost her life along I-93. After anxiously driving along an icy stretch of the highway, she decided to pull over into the interstate's right lane to switch drivers.

It wasn't long after she pulled over that a tractor-trailer collided with both her and her male companion as they were standing outside the woman's Volvo S40. The impact of the crash also sent the woman's 2004 Volvo into a guardrail. It later ended up deep down inside of a 100-foot-deep embankment. By then, the ditch has become something of an icy reservoir.

Witnesses to the horrific crash summoned emergency crews to the scene. When they arrived, they found the young woman in bad shape along the embankment. They quickly placed her in an awaiting ambulance and whisked her away to Parkland Medical Center in Windham, New Hampshire. Soon after her arrival there, she was pronounced dead.

The decedent's male companion, a native of Derry, New Hampshire, was transported to Portsmouth Regional Medical Center suffering from serious injuries. As of Sunday, Dec. 24, he was listed in fair condition. Another 18-year-old female passenger from Methuen, also riding in the Volvo at the time, suffered relatively minor injuries in the crash.

After hauling away the victims, it took emergency crews over three hours to clean up the crash scene. It's unclear if police intend to file any charges against the trucker for his involvement in causing the crash.

In the northeast, icy roads require motorists and truckers alike to drive even more cautiously than they would when roads are dry. As a Portsmouth personal injury learns more about what led to your loved one's death, they may advise you of your right to file a wrongful death lawsuit.
