Divorce mediation may help you reach agreement.
There are many issues involved in a divorce. The two parties can either agree on how those issues are resolved or the court will decide. An agreement reached in mediation will better fit the needs of your particular situation by allowing you to discuss and reach creative solutions and, most importantly, by allowing you, rather than a marital master or judge, to control the outcome.
In mediation, both sides are heard. You don’t have to agree on any issues when you enter the process, except for one — you must agree to try mediation. Each party can bring up issues and concerns in the confidential and private setting of mediation. Through the guidance of the mediator, you can begin to resolve matters such as property division and distribution, debt division, support and child custody.
The court may order mediation. If there are children under 18 and if there are no domestic violence issues, the court may order family law mediation. Through extensive experience, the courts and family lawyers know that mediated agreements are more likely to fit the particular needs of both parties and the family.
You can rely on a trained, experienced mediator. At our law firm, you can find a trained mediator or a lawyer who can represent you in mediation. Contact us for an appointment to discuss family law mediation and whether it would work for you. We represent family law clients in New Hampshire and Maine.
